VIBRANT LIVING

30 Dec 2019

Vibrant living Two small blond girls giggle, laugh and play hide and seek in our office. It is Wednesday just after noon, and I ask them why they are not in nursery school? They play with our office dog Luna and don’t seem to hear my question. The girls seem happy and free.

Sus, the young mother of the two pseudo twin girls, Naomi and Noelle, is sipping her hot tea while telling Fie, the founder and designer of Serendipity, about her and her husband’s decision to take care of the girls at home. They used to be in nursery school. According to Sus there were several reasons they are no longer there, but the main reason was their well-being. Noelle, her eldest kept saying she was playing alone all the time, though the staff said she was playing with others. Then Sus youngest daughter Naomi started in the same nursery and while breaking her in for some days, Sus got aware that the staff was always very few, new and many had sick leaves. So really no consistency for the kids, no one helping the children to play and socialize. It broke her heart when she found Naomi in the nurseys wardrobe, alone with all her pacifiers, she wasn’t sad, but she was alone, and the teachers hadn’t noticed her for a long time.

Sus is liberatingly honest about her mixed feelings and doubts about what the right thing to do was. She shares her concerns, ambivalent feelings and happy moments on her blog and Instagram account with her 18.000 followers! Despite the most important - being a mother - Sus is an environmental economist and writes about sustainability, ethics, recycling, secondhand and climate change to mention only a few in that category.

Sus has an esthetic and creative mind. When your eyes meet the universe of “Sus Living” you are instantly drawn. The deep warm colours are nothing like the cold Scandinavia minimalistic design that characterizes a typical Danish home. Vibrant, dusty and earthy tones dominate everywhere, from the spacious wooden kitchen with yellow herringbone brick floor, to the bathroom with a wooden bath top and a zinc tub used as a sink. Green plants, flowers and DIY ornaments fill up her and her family’s’ home and makes you want to instantly move in. She and her husband set the goal to renovate the house with old and used materials, both because of the “re-using” but also they love the expression of the old patina look it has.

The family of four took over the home 3 years ago and has made it into a welcoming and calm space for their two girls. Sus has a hope that another baby will join the heartwarming family and home over time.

We are looking forward to follow Sus, her motherhood, creative mind, her esthetic and sustainable life over time here at Serendipity.
