Karoline de Lony, school teacher and mother of Ivan, three years
To be a mother is nothing out of the ordinary. Most women will eventually do it, and that can be a comforting reminder, sometimes. We are very privileged in our part of the world, never having to worry about feeling safe or feeding our kids.
Maybe that is why some mothers find the time to meddle with other mothers’ affairs. Instead, back up your fellow mom! Feel fortunate, be kind, be grateful! A lot of modern mothers refer – often in a somewhat bitter tone – to pictureperfect images of motherhood online, and it always surprises me that they can’t see through the filter. Literally. With kids comes surprises, good and bad, and having to deal with the bad is also motherhood. And, it is, from time to time, complete chaos. But, there you have it, that’s life: right there, when your kid vomits all over your bed and when you can’t remember when you last wore mascara. Or, if you ever did?
To be yourself as a mother is probably, hopefully, the best gift that you can give to your child. Through good and bad, everything is about perspective: that is why motherhood, at the same time, is nothing special and something very special.
